The 2025 edition of the event, IP Xpose, is running at SMESCO Building in Jakarta from August 13- 16. Organized by the Ministry of Law through the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DGIP), the event brings aims to boost public understanding of intellectual property, empower MSMEs through maximizing their IP potential, and deepen Indonesia’s collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). It also offers a diverse range of activities such workshops a variety of IP related creative endeavours and skills, business clinics, product exhibitions, among others.

- Launch of IP-Based Financing for MSMEs
The centrepiece of IP Xpose 2025 was the launch of an IP-based financing program. An ambitious that enables MSMEs to use IP certificates as collateral for bank loans. The initiative begins with trademarks and will gradually expand to include patents, industrial designs, and copyrights. This program is expected to boost MSMEs’ access to capital and empower them to scale up by leveraging their intangible assets. Minister Supratman Andi Agtas, note that Implementation will require cross-sector coordination between ministries, the financial sector, and regulators like the Financial Services Authority (OJK).
- IP Positioned as a Driver of National Economic Growth
Minister Supratman Andi Agtas underlined the strategic role of IP in achieving Indonesia Emas 2045—the nation’s long-term vision for becoming a globally competitive, innovation-driven economy. He emphasized that IP is more than a legal or administrative tool; it is a key engine for innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development. The 2024 date revealed that creative economy contributed Rp1,500 trillion to the national GDP and supported 26.5 million jobs—highlighting the transformative power of IP in developing the nation as a whole.
- Rapid Growth in Indonesia’s IP Ecosystem
Indonesia’s intellectual property ecosystem has experienced remarkable growth over the past decade, signalling a nationwide shift toward innovation and brand-conscious entrepreneurship. Director General of Intellectual Property, Razilu, announced that between 2015 and 2024, total IP filings surged by 1.74 million, with an impressive average annual growth rate of 18.5%. The most dramatic increase was seen in copyright applications, which has risen significantly from 5,973 in 2015 to 178,138 in 2024—Meanwhile, trademark registrations also saw an impressive rise, doubling from 61,899 to 136,794, These developments reflecting greater awareness among Indonesian businesses of the importance of brand identity and protection, as well as a general more regard for copyright of works. Furthermore, they are also a testament the effectiveness of national outreach programs, simplified registration processes, and educational initiatives led by DGIP, as more individuals and businesses seek to protect and commercialize their ideas.
- Rising Global Standing in Innovation and IP Recognition
Indonesia’s commitment to innovation is recognized on an international level, as seen in its improved rankings in the Global Innovation Index (GII)—moving from 75th in 2022 to 54th in 2024. WIPO Director General Daren Tang, who attended the event, highlighted Indonesia’s rich heritage in arts and culture, praising the nation’s “intellectual wealth and boundless creativity.” Tang reaffirmed WIPO’s support through collaborative initiatives in awareness-building, capacity development, and on-the-ground IP programs like the new micro-financing effort. While there is much to work upon regarding Indonesia’s international reputation in regards to IP protection, these developments are a welcome progress for the future.
